The power of gratitude

the power of gratitude

We tend to take things for granted. The moment we achieve a goal or fulfill some dream we become thrilled and excited when it happens but then forget it’s significance with the passing of time. The things that we once saw as a blessing when they happened are now taken for granted.

Our list of gifts for which we should be truly grateful gets lost as we focus on the present challenges or setbacks we are presently experiencing. It is so easy to lose perspective and appreciation for everything in  our lives. It is important that we take the time to remind ourselves of how blessed we are.

If we don’t appreciate what we have already in our lives, what is the point of wanting more? We are already living an extraordinary life, we just don’t realize it. When you think that more than one billion people in the world live on less than one dollar a day. When you think that of people in the developing world living with diseases that eradicated from rich countries decades ago. The issues that stress us are insignificant when we think of the real day-to-day problems that so many people on our planet.

Have gratitude that you woke up this morning, a million don’t on our planet. When you woke up this morning did you hear, see, were you able yo move your limbs? Did you have a roof over your head, clean water to drink, food to eat?

When you make a list of your blessing in life you can get a true perspective on life. Happy people don’t have a better set of circumstances, they have a better set of perspectives.

The expression of gratitude is also important. When you express gratitude you don’t just benefit from it yourself but you can make a difference in other people’s lives. This will come back you tenfold. What you give is what comes back to you.

Appreciation. Thank people for the small and bigger things they do for you.

Approval. Praise others for what they accomplish, no matter how small it. This builds self-esteem in others and those people will remember you for it.

Admiration. Give compliments at every possibility opportunity.

The more positive you are, the more people will like you and the more they will be of assistance to you on your life’s journey.
